In Super Mario World, if a Pokey’s head is only slightly grazed by an object such as a moving shell, it will not die, but a copy of its head will fly off as though it was defeated, alongside 200 points being awarded.
By using a glitch called “block duplication”, whereby new blocks can be created in mid-air by throwing objects upward next to them in extremely precise ways, it is possible to create a block structure next to a slope with a Pokey that is shaped in such a way that it allows a moving shell to be positioned at a spot where it would continuously graze the Pokey as it moves up and down the slope. This creates an “infinite Pokey decapitation machine” as seen in the footage.
